The memorial service for the late General Francis Ogolla at the Ulinzi Sports Complex is an intimate military affair, reserved exclusively for his immediate family and a carefully selected group of guests.

The decision to limit attendance to the service reflects the military’s intention to honor Ogolla in a more personal and reverential manner.

Given Ogolla’s distinguished position as the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), military personnel felt it fitting to bid him farewell with a dignified and ceremonial tribute, befitting of his service and leadership.

Among the esteemed guests expected to attend are President William Ruto, his deputy Rigathi Gachagua, and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

The military has taken full responsibility for all arrangements until Ogolla is laid to rest.

Today’s proceedings will include meticulously organized military honors, conducted in accordance with the Defence Forces Standing Instructions No. 5 of 2020, which outlines the protocol for such occasions and the individuals deserving of such recognition.

Additionally, soldiers have arranged for a requiem mass at the same venue, scheduled to take place five days after his interment.

This service offers a poignant opportunity to reflect on the life and enduring legacy of a revered military leader who dedicated himself to the service of the nation.

Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale confirmed that a post-mortem examination was conducted on Friday at the Mashujaa Funeral Home at the Defence Forces Memorial Hospital, where Ogolla’s body has been resting.

Duale also announced that Ogolla would receive full military honors, including a military parade and a 19-gun salute.

Ogolla is slated to be laid to rest on April 21 at his ancestral home in Ng’iya, Alego Usonga, Siaya County.

According to his family, Ogolla expressed a wish to be buried within 72 hours of his passing.
