Following the killing of Clansman gang enforcer Sheldon Walters, otherwise known as Termite, head of the St Catherine North Police Division Superintendent Hopeton Nicholson is assuring the public that calm has been restored to Spanish Town.
Nicholson stated, “The police and the military, along with other agencies, had managed to clear the block roads from as early as 11 a.m., all roads have been cleared since.”
While acknowledging lingering tension, Nicholson emphasised that “things are back to normal, businesses are opened, [and] commuters are going to and from unimpeded.”
Nicholson addressed misinformation on social media platforms, urging the public to rely on official police communications and credible mainstream media for accurate updates.
He revealed that of the 22 individuals detained on Saturday, two remain in custody.
He said one is being held in connection with a murder investigation and the another in relation to a shooting.
The aftermath of Walters’ killing led to disruptions in the area.
Several schools, including St Jago, St Catherine, Jonathan Grant, Jose Marti, and Spanish Town high schools closed their doors to students on Monday.
The bustling shopping district of Burke Road experienced a significant downturn in activity as apprehensive individuals opted to stay away.
