THE Solomon Islands United Party (SIUP) candidate for West New Georgia-Vonavona Silas Vaqara Tausinga, who occupied the constituency’s parliamentary seat for three consecutive terms, has been unseated by none other than the Solomon Islands Democratic Party Candidate (SIDP) George Temahua.
Temahua polled a total of 3,869 votes, whilst Vaqara polled 2,524 votes.
Vaqara was first elected into Parliament in the 2010 National General Election and during his first term in Parliament, he served as Minister of Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening.
He was a Member of the People’s Alliance Party during his early years in Parliament.
In West Makira, SIDP candidate Derick Rawcliff Manuari has retained his seat with a total of 1.275 votes. His runner-up Tommy Manna of OUR Party polled a total of 987 votes.
Meanwhile, the Leader of the SIDP and Coalition for Accountability, Reform and Empowerment (CARE) front-liner Matthew Wale has been re-elected.
The Returning Officer for Malaita Province has declared the re-election of Wale but the Solomon Islands Electoral Commission Chief Electoral Officer Jasper Anisi is yet to announce the result.
Nevertheless, SIDP on its facebook page has congratulated Wale on his re-election.
