Danger lurks in Khama’s much trumpeted return home
On the 8th of November 2021 former President Ian Khama fled Botswana for South Africa.
He has stayed there ever since.
Botswana government maintains Khama is a fugitive running away from facing his day in court.
For his part Khama maintains that he feared for his life.
And that after several attempts on his life he had no option but to leave Botswana.
He maintains that he has been hounded out of the country by state sponsored persecution.
Some of the more independent United Nations agencies like the Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary and arbitrary executions have noticeably believed his story.
That is a debate for another day.
