The Barbados Light & Power Company recently continued efforts to support the Caribbean Dyslexia Centre (CDC), donating much needed funding and teaching tools.

Managing Director Roger Blackman, along with members of the Corporate Communications team, visited the CDC, one of its Haggatt Hall sub-station neighbours, to hand over the gifts.

The power company, as part of its corporate social responsibility efforts, had been supporting the CDC since around 2000 and donated more than $20 000 to assist with teacher training and infrastructure upgrades until that covenant ended in 2011.

Light & Power said in a statement that it was again happy to assist with more funding and the donation of a collection of books for use in teaching, as this need aligns perfectly with its values as a company that truly cares about development of the human resource. It said it was particularly special when the company is given the opportunity to lend support to those responsible for shaping and training minds for the future.

“As a company guided by a strict code of conduct hinged on equality and respect, we fully endorse the idea of equal opportunity, for every child, irrespective of their learning needs. No one should be disadvantaged because they learn differently,” Blackman said.

“Light & Power salutes the commitment of the Director Ms Juliet Gabbidon-King and teachers at the CDC, for their unwavering dedication to bridging the gap in education.”

Blackman encouraged the director and teachers to continue to do their good work. (PR)
